Welcome to PIDCI!

PIDCI President Fe MartinezMabuhay! Welcome to the wonderful world of PIDCI, the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. As you probably know, PIDCI is the organization of organizations that plans, organizes, produces, executes, manages directs and presents the annual commemoration of Philippine Independence to the Filipino and Filipino-American and the mainstream community.

The months-long, multi-major-event commemoration has been staged in New York City going on 23 years this year, in the process having become the largest celebration of Philippine Independence for more than 18 years now.

Here in the PIDCI website, we will inform you of every development in the lineup of commemorative events, from the Grand Marshal Gala, the Diwa ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence) Search, Selection and Coronation Pageant and Gala, the Independence Day, when we have the pièce de résistance of the commemoration, the Independence Day Parade, propped up on the same day by the all-day Street Fair and the afternoon Cultural Festival.

And this year being the 10th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc., we are introducing the Mrs. Kalayaan contest as a commemorative event. Last year 2011, for the 113th commemoration, when Independence Day featured the awards-winning "Queen of Philippine Festivals" Dinagyang Festival from Iloilo City, Iloilo, the whole day celebration registered a new record of 100,000 participation and attendance. A surge from the previous year's (2010) New York Police Department (NYPD) total celebrators estimate of 70,000 persons.

At this time, allow me to say maraming salamat (many thanks) to the some 266 member organizations of PIDCI, especially their Presidents, who made sure they registered their organization as a member. Special mention go to the 229 member organizations whose Presidents and/or representatives came to vote in the last elections, and of course, for electing me President of PIDCI for the 114th anniversary commemoration of Philippine Independence.

And on behalf of the new members of the PIDCI Board of Directors that were elected into office with me by those Presidents and representatives, let me express a deep gratitude. Their presence, but especially their votes, send an exceptionally strong signal affirming their commitment to all kababayan and the whole community as volunteers. They and you and we are the ones we allude to in our theme for the 114th anniversary commemoration of Philippine Independence. We all are:

Ang Bagong Pilipino:
Bagong Kalayaan. Bagong Layunin. Bagong Pagkakaisa.

The New Filipino: New Independence. New Purpose. New Oneness.
